KR – Star Wars X-Wing Custom Trays Review

KR’s newest real ease are a series of custom trays for Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars X-Wing miniatures game. Having bought into the game I was quick to snap some of these trays up to help keep the collection organised.

A quick order later and this shows up at my door step:

The case itself comes with 3 trays, which will house all the tokens, cards and models from the base set, plus expansions.

Each tray is to the standard KR quality and you can read about those in my other reviews so lets move to the practical bit of stuffing them full of stuff 🙂

The main tray is fairly straight forward and allows you to fit 10 miniatures on their stands ensuring they will remain secure. One issue I have had is randomly misplacing the 2-part flying pegs and being able to keep them assembled when not in use will certainly make life a bit easier going forward.

My only concern on this tray is that despite the website saying the tray will fit a Y-Wing, they do stick out a bit. The good thing however is that due to the foam being soft, once everything was packed and closed there where no issues and it is still in one piece.

The 2nd tray will give you plenty of space to fit your tokens and movement dials. This tray is also supposed to fit the dice but as I have 2 base sets there was not enough space for me to fit them in here, if you only have 1 set there will be plenty of space.

The final tray is where all the cards and movement markers go. As you can see as well there is added space for my dice to fit in here instead of the other tray. My main cards are in protective sleeves and thankfully there is just enough space for them to fit in nice and snug in the tray. There are also handy cut outs to allow you to slide a finger in to easily remove all the cards and save any undue hassle.

The longest straight line marker and the range marker are too big and don’t actually have a place in the tray that will fit them and so this just sit on the top diagonally once everything gets packed in.

Overall these are a lovely set of trays in which everything has been thought out to make sure all the components fit in. This basic set has been stuffed with 2 base sets worth of models and tokens plus several expansions. These will work out nicely and will enable me to stick them in with my other trays and mix and match when I want a variety of things to take down to the gaming club.
